A. Ursyn Orchestra / Serpents Hugo and Hank
Previous Home Next

Hugo and Hank are the only members of the orchestra who know how to play serpents. Hugo can also play many instruments from distant countries. And colleagues find it exciting and unusual. Particular qualities and characteristics of music introduced from unfamiliar cultures takes up all of Hugo’s attention and focus of interest. One might say Hugo is influenced and controlled by emotion evoked by playing serpents. He writes a thesis about serpents and some instruments belonging to the same family. According to Hugo, serpents deserve recognition because of their qualities. He analyzes these instruments in comparison to western musical instruments. Writing a thesis is a demanding task, especially when a theme shows not too many signs of previous explorations. Hugo devotes a lot of his time and energy to search, mostly online, for possible data. He uses web resources as a basis for building his references and footnotes and includes information about the web pages and dates when he had visited them. He learns very late that David used to play serpents. It was long time ago, though. Now they can work together. They play dressed as Hydra with three heads.
