Kai, Zhu, Seu, and Ely were the last minute replacements Their job was to be there and be ready. Just in case someone would not show up or could not play for one reason or the other. The job requirements were to practice a lot, to know the scores for every projected concert and to be on time. Patience was not listed as job requirement. Since talking, listening to the music or movie watching was not permitted, they decided to read the same book, and whoever would finish first, and still was able to summarize the content of the book, would be named a winner of this competition. The winner was the first to take the replacement.
